I was out checking the gate to the yard and then went to check inside the garage. There I saw one of the kittens from our litter of cats had gotten out. It appeared to have been injured and now was dirty, deformed, with bloody patchy hair and could barely crawl. I picked it up and took it inside to check if the rest of the litter were okay. They were about 4 of them and they seemed okay and healthy. I was trying to figure out how one kitten got this way as I took it to the bathroom to try and clean it up. When I entered the bathroom, I found a repairman working on the wall. He had torn a hole into it and inside he found yet another kitten. This one wasn't injured, but it was much smaller and obviously malnourished and neglected. Flabbergasted, I then took the kittens into the kitchen and found two sisters sitting at the table. I cleaned the kittens and set them in a safe place with some food and water. I then sat down at the table between the two sisters to talk to them about what happened with the kittens. Before I could say a word the sister on my right began to berate me about how poorly I had taken care of the kittens. She then chewed me out for putting locks on the doors, which slowed down her ability to easily move in and out of the house, and that I needed to stop doing that. She was complaining that it wasn't just the closing the door that was the problem, but that someone kept locking them. I had no idea who had. Anytime I would try to say a word, she would just yell right over me, so I kept quiet. In my mind, I grew frustrated with wanting to tell her that it wasn't me who put the locks on the door but that if we wanted to protect the kittens, it wasn't a bad idea to keep the door closed. But she didn't seem to care about any of the kittens, just upset about the locks on the door. I finally blurted out that it wasn't the locks on the door that was the problem but leaving the gate to the yard open. The other sister just sat quietly observing us and I suddenly got the feeling that she was the one that was messing with the locks, doors and gate, on purpose, to mess with both if us.
